Jardín Oculto – The Hidden Garden of Bolivia

Nestled in the remote valleys of Cinti, southern Bolivia, Jardín Oculto is one of the most exciting wine projects to emerge from South America in recent years. Dedicated to preserving Bolivia's extraordinary viticultural heritage, the winery works with vineyards that are among the oldest in the Americas, some more than 200 years old, cultivating rare grape varieties that have flourished in the region for generations.

The vineyards of Jardín Oculto are a living testament to centuries of winemaking tradition. Here, many different grape varieties—some still uncategorised to this day—coexist within three distinct vine-growing systems: modern trellised vineyards, old bush vines, and the remarkable Arbolitos—ancient vines climbing up to six metres high, intertwined with native Molle and Chañar trees.

Seen from a distance, they resemble a forest more than a conventional vineyard. Over generations, vines and trees have evolved in a remarkable natural symbiosis, creating a self-regulating ecosystem that requires minimal intervention. The trees provide shade from the intense high-altitude sun, help protect the vines from hail, and create a balanced environment in which both species thrive together. This unique landscape is not only a rare agricultural heritage but also a striking example of sustainable viticulture shaped by centuries of local knowledge.

At 2,300 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from intense sunlight, cool mountain nights, and dramatic temperature shifts that contribute to wines of exceptional freshness, balance, and character.

Jardín Oculto focuses on Criolla varieties such as Negra Criolla, Vischoqueña, and Moscatel de Alejandría, crafting authentic wines that express the identity of Bolivia's high-altitude terroir. Through careful, low-intervention winemaking, each bottle reflects the unique relationship between ancient vines, native trees, and the rugged landscape of the Cinti Valley.

Recognized by some of the wine world's most respected voices, Jardín Oculto has become a benchmark for Bolivian fine wine while remaining deeply rooted in the ancestral vineyards of the Cinti Valley. The winery's wines have been awarded Bolivia's Best Red Wine and Best White Wine by the Descorchados Guide, while in 2026 Tim Atkin MW named Jardín Oculto "Bolivian Winery of the Year" for its pioneering work preserving the region's extraordinary viticultural heritage. Further international recognition came from the Old Vine Conference, where founder María José Granier was shortlisted as a finalist for the Old Vine Hero Awards, celebrating her contribution to the preservation and revival of historic vineyards.

Every bottle is an invitation to discover a hidden garden of ancient vines, living traditions, and extraordinary wines.
